League One Luton Town survived a scare to beat National League side Forest Green Rovers 4-3 in the FA Cup first round. 31 Oct 2025
Gideon Kodua came off the bench to win it in stoppage time after the visitors came from 3-0 down in the second half to level the match. Lamine Fanne and Nahki Wells had put Jack Wilshere's side in control at the break, and Wells thought he had secured victory with his second goal of the game early in the second half. However, substitutes Tom Knowles, Kyle McAllister and Aidan Dausch pulled Rovers back into it before Kodua struck with a decisive finish on a night of high drama at Kenilworth Road. Both sides traded early chances before Fanne curled an effort just wide. Moments later, he found the net with a similar chance from the edge of the area after being fed by Wells, despite being off balance. Wells pounced to double the lead on the half-hour mark after Fiachra Pagel spilled Cohen Bramall's free-kick into his path. The striker should have had another goal a second a minute later but he fired over after springing the offside trap. Jili Buyabu thought he had halved the deficit with half-time looming. A well-worked corner kick found him in space but his attempt at goal was blocked by Teden Mengi. Wells made it 3-0 with another close-range finish as Fanne repaid the compliment from his earlier assist after Tre Pemberton was dispossessed high up the pitch. On the hour, Knowles pulled Rovers back into the game with a curling effort from the edge of the Luton box, which wrongfooted keeper Josh Keeley after a deflection off Mengi, but few in the ground could have foreseen what was to come. Mengi's night took a turn for the worse just seven minutes later when he brought down Harry Whitwell in the area to concede a penalty kick, and McAllister stepped up to make it 3-2. With 11 minutes remaining, the ball fell to debutant Dausch after Luton failed to clear and he levelled the scores, sending Forest Green boss Robbie Savage and the travelling fans wild. Rovers captain Laurent Mendy almost completed an amazing turnaround but his header hit the crossbar with four minutes to go. Kodua broke Rovers hearts in stoppage time when he smashed home from close range, but there was still time for Dausch to squander a wonderful chance to take the tie into extra time.
Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka scored second-half goals as a youthful Arsenal side beat Brighton to reach the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. 30 Oct 2025
Mikel Arteta named 15-year-old Max Dowman, who became the youngest Arsenal player to start a match, and 17-year-old Andre Harriman-Annous in a side that had 10 changes from the team that beat Crystal Palace on Sunday. And it was two of Arsenal's other young players who combined to give the Gunners the lead in the 57th minute. Mikel Merino played Myles Lewis-Skelly into the area with a clever backheel and the defender pulled the ball back for fellow academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri to sweep into the far corner. Second-half substitute Saka doubled the lead when he picked up the rebound from a Harriman-Annous shot and fired into an empty net to give Arsenal the win. Brighton had good opportunities in the first half to open the scoring, first through Georginio Rutter when the forward had a good chance saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga. Striker Stefanos Tzimas then had a big chance to score but shot wide from inside the area following a counter-attack. The result means Arsenal progress to host Crystal Palace in the last eight of the competition, are now unbeaten in their past 11 games and have not conceded a goal for six matches.
Arne Slot's line-up gamble backfired as a much-changed Liverpool lost at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup last 16 - the Reds' sixth defeat in seven games. 30 Oct 2025
Slot named three teenagers in his starting line-up and a further five among his substitutes as he made 10 changes from the team that was beaten 3-2 at Brentford on Saturday. But poor defending allowed Palace's Ismaila Sarr to score twice in a four-minute spell at the end of the first half to take the game away from the hosts, before Yeremy Pino added a late third with a low curled finish. With no-one older than 21 on the bench and first-team players Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike all absent, Liverpool made a tame exit in a competition they had won twice in the past four seasons. Federico Chiesa, who scored in Liverpool's loss to Newcastle in last season's final in March, had two good opportunities but fired one attempt over with another saved by Walter Benitez. An error from England defender Joe Gomez allowed Sarr to score the opener, before the Senegal attacker got his second soon after - having been given far too much space when collecting Pino's pass. Liverpool's miserable evening then saw 18-year-old defender Amara Nallo shown a straight red card in the 79th minute for hauling down Justin Devenny who was racing through on goal. Pino's third sealed a convincing win for the Eagles. Wednesday's loss continues a dismal run of form for the Premier League champions - who have a tough run of games coming up. They host Aston Villa in the league on Saturday, Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday and then travel to Manchester City on Sunday, 9 November. Palace will play at Arsenal in the quarter-final, with the tie to be played in the week commencing 15 December.
A pair of headers from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade sent holders Newcastle United into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at the expense of Tottenham. 30 Oct 2025
Spurs have hurt a number of sides with their aerial ability this season, particularly at set-plays, but the much-changed hosts gave Thomas Frank's team a taste of their own medicine at St James' Park. Newcastle took the lead midway through the first half when Schar easily rose above Lucas Bergvall to head them in front from Sandro Tonali's corner. Spurs players protested to referee Chris Kavanagh as Tonali took the corner just as defender Djed Spence got to his feet after putting his boot back on, but the goal stood. Woltemade doubled his side's lead with his sixth goal of the season after the German met Joe Willock's scooped cross and nodded past goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who missed the ball completely. Spurs went close to immediately pulling one back when midfielder Pape Sarr's first-time effort forced Aaron Ramsdale into a flying save to his left. But Newcastle, who also had Harvey Barnes smack the bar with an acrobatic effort, saw the game out to reach the last eight of the competition for the fourth consecutive season, facing Fulham next. "There is no priority," said boss Eddie Howe. "We just want to win and win consistently. That's such a healthy thing for the group to feel. "The acid test was this game for that because of the changes we made. Was our mentality and mindset going to waver? The most pleasing thing for me was that it didn't."
Doue on crutches after being carried off in PSG draw. 30 Oct 2025
Paris St-Germain forward Desire Doue is set for another spell on the sidelines after leaving the stadium on crutches following his side's 1-1 draw with Lorient on Wednesday. Doue, 20, was stretchered off the field in tears after appearing to injure his right thigh on the hour mark. He has only recently returned to action after injuring his calf playing for France during the September international break. "It's always bad news when there are injuries," said PSG boss Luis Enrique. "It's a strange injury; I don't know exactly his condition. I hope it's not a serious injury." After the match the AFP news agency reported Doue leaving the Stade du Moustoir on crutches and avoiding putting weight on his right leg as he boarded the PSG bus. Doue enjoyed a breakout season in 2024-25, scoring 16 goals and providing 16 assists in 61 games as PSG won the Champions League for the first time alongside a domestic double. Last week he scored his first two goals of the season in a 7-2 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, before he netted again in PSG's 3-0 league win against Brest on Saturday. PSG remain top of Ligue 1 by a point despite dropping points for a fourth time this season after Marseille drew 2-2 with Angers and Lyon drew 3-3 with Paris FC.
